Central Deborah Gold Mine, Bendigo

Bendigo’s history is one of resilience, ambition, and community spirit—an enduring legacy shaped by those who worked tirelessly to build the foundations of the city we know today. The gold rush of the mid-nineteenth century transformed Bendigo into one of Australia’s most prosperous mining regions, leaving a lasting mark on our cultural and economic landscape.

This book, Ray Beer’s Vision: The Central Deborah Gold Mine Story, honours that legacy. It not only chronicles the remarkable journey of our mining past, but also celebrates the contributions of individuals such as Mr Ray Beer. His dedication and expertise played a vital role in preserving Bendigo’s heritage, and his lifelong commitment to keeping our history alive is a powerful reminder of the importance of historical preservation.

As we look to the future, we must continue to share these stories, ensuring that the next generation understands the rich heritage that shaped our community. I commend Daniel K. Mason for his work in bringing these stories to life and for capturing Bendigo’s remarkable history with passion and care.

It is an honour to support this important work. May it serve both as an educational resource and as an inspiration for all who value Bendigo’s past and its future.
